Hola Fahrenhistas,
One of the things we enjoy most about Fahrenheit is the relationship we’ve all built together over the years - almost uniquely in publishing, there’s a genuine feeling here of community and real conversation between our readers and authors that’s genuinely a joy to see unfold.
Normally we all bump along quite happily, just a bunch of bookish weirdoes wearing cool t-shirts and probably obsessing a bit too much about the books we love, right?
It’s important though that when things get a bit rocky we sit back and properly listen to what you have to say - this week has been one of those weeks.
Last week we announced the publication of a very limited hardback anniversary edition of Russell Day’s cult novel King Of The Crows - it went down really well - some lovely emails and comments on the socials about how beautiful it was, and we sold a decent number of copies too.
What didn’t go down so well with everyone was the price - at £24.99 we agree it’s not cheap and a fair few of you got in touch to tell us exactly that.
We get it. Right now as the cost of living crisis is foremost in most people’s mind announcing a fairly exclusive, high- priced book might not have been the best read of the room we ever taken and for that we unreservedly apologise.
We’ll level with you - the fact is the book is a massive 650 pages long, and bearing in mind the paper price increases & supply chain problems that have been imposed on all publishers over the last 18 months we promise you there is pretty much no money in this for us - even at £24.99. Like most of the things we do at Fahrenheit we’re doing it for love, and because we think the book deserves it - trust us nobody is getting rich out of this, quite the opposite in fact.
Anyway that said, we listened to what you said and took note of your many suggestions that we make a cheaper paperback edition available at the same time - we had a think, ran the numbers and decided we could just about make it work.
So the upshot of all this is that the anniversary edition of King Of The Crows will now be available in eBook, Paperback & Hardback editions (and as with all our books if you buy the paperback or hardback you’ll get the eBook bundled in for FREE).
We’ve kept the price as low as we possibly can for the paperback edition but again remember the book is 650 pages long (about 3 times the length of an average book) so the price is still higher than one of our standard titles.
In other news, we started to get the first photos of Lola Jones out in the wild this week….
We also found out from one of our readers that the collective noun for a group of Swifts was “A drift of swifts…” - which we found very pleasing indeed.
With all that it mind it might be worth noting that you can pick up your very own DRIFT OF SWIFTS over at our store this weekend by taking advantage of our special offer.
(No need for a promo-code, the discount will be automatically calculated at the checkout).
And finally this week, for those of you who think we’ve been going a bit light on the merch recently here’s a little King Of The Crows themed bonus for you…
Plague Doctor shirts & hoodies are available in our store NOW - and my aren’t they absolute beauties…
Okay people, that’s all from us for this week - good chats.
If you’re out and about this weekend stay safe, look after each, and be kind when you can - we’re all living on our nerves at the minute and sometimes a smile from a stranger could just make all the difference in the world.
We kiss you.
xx
