Hola Fahrenhistas,
It’s all been a bit hell for the leather in The Bunker this week with no real time to raise our heads above the parapet - feels like we’re having to work twice as hard just to keep afloat - suspect we’re all pretty much in the same boat, right?
Bit of sad news this week as we saw another of our Indie brethern take the difficult decision to wind up their publishing operation (RIP Louise Walters Books - Louise flew the indie publishing flag, published some great books, and fought the good fight for the last 5 years but sadly she’s been forced to pull the plug on any new publishing as the economic realities closed in.)
She wont be the last.
This is definitely gonna get worse and judging by what publishers are telling me in private, it’s clear that the cost of living crisis is hitting the Indie Publishing sector even harder than the pandemic did.
For our part we reckon the only thing we can do at this point to make sure Fahrenheit don’t sink beneath the waves is to hustle hustle hustle to get our stock out of the warehouse and some cash into our bank account so we can keep publishing the awesome books and authors you’ve come to expect from us.
So here you go, speaking of hustling - 20% OFF EVERYTHING IN OUR STORE THIS WEEKEND.
And of course we know that a whole load of you are a bit brassic at the moment too so as we announced a while ago we’ll be making books available for FREE for the foreseeable future for anyone who needs them.
This week’s FREE book is THE TV DETECTIVE which is Book 1 in Simon Hall’s hugely popular Dan Groves Investigates series.
We’ll be publishing the 4th book in this series in a few weeks so this is the perfect opportunity to get on board without breaking the bank. These books are belters - essentially as Morse is to Oxfordshire, Dan Groves is to Devon - proper holiday reads…
In merch news, as the Crime Festival season is getting ready to kick off again what better time to get your outfits sorted (and save 20% if you use promo-code APRIL20 this weekend). Imagine how cool you’ll look wearing one of these beauties at CrimeFest or Theakstons this year.
We’re particularly loving this new Fingerprint shirt - no idea why we didn’t do one years ago…
Alright people that’s pretty much all from us this week, this weekend will be mainly spent watching the finale of the Womens’ Six Nations (England -v- France looks like being a classic - we’re 100% England for this one).
In an unexpected turn of events there will also be a little recording action going down involving a certain Scottish publisher of your acquaintance giving a full-throated performance of the official Catholic church Rites Of Exorcism - don’t ask, we’ll tell you more about this soon.
If you’re gonna be out and about stay safe, look after each other and above all be kind if you can. We’re all a bit on edge at the minute and a smile from a stranger might just make all the difference to someone.
We kiss you.
xx
P.S. If you’re skint please download the FREE book that’s what it’s there for - flipside though is if you’ve got a couple of quid go buy something - your support is the only thing that enables us to keep going - we really don’t want to become another footnote in the continuing demise of Indie publishing - use us or lose us.
