Hola Fahrenhistas,
Back at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 it became very clear very quickly that as businesses shuttered and strict lockdowns were imposed, many people were going to struggle financially.
Books - so often used as an escape - were going to become luxuries that a lot of people simply couldn’t afford at exactly the time they were going to need them most.
We decided we’d try and help out and through our Stronger Together campaign we started to give eBooks away for free to anyone who found themselves in financial difficulty - no ifs, no buts - if you needed a book but couldn’t afford one, we had your back.
Over the course of the pandemic we ended up giving away almost 19,000 eBooks to readers who needed some help.
Cut to 2022 and although there don’t seem to be any pandemic lockdowns in the offing we’re now in a really serious Cost Of Living Crisis where inflation, fuel bills, food prices and almost everything else are seriously squeezing people.
Again it’ll be the people with the least who get squeezed the most so we’ve decided to bring back Stronger Together.
For the foreseeable future we’ll be giving away a different eBook for FREE EVERY SINGLE WEEK.
So if you’re feeling the pinch you can have one on us this week.
First up is Paul Heatley’s pulp noir classic Bad Bastards.
Paul is currently hitting the best-seller lists on both sides of the Atlantic with his hugely successful Tom Rollins series and we’re very proud to have published Bad Bastards on our Fahrenheit 13 imprint before he made the big time (and yeah we have totally nicked the look of his new covers so ours will fit in with his new brand - always be hustling people).
Okay, now we’ve got the admin out of the way, here comes the fun stuff…
The new edition of Fahrenzine is ready to go and this latest issue is something pretty special as for the first time we'll be publishing a story from a writer who's already claimed a previous Fahrenzine issue.
Two years ago in the run-up to the publication of his ground-breaking novel King Of The Crows we published the 2nd ever issue of Fahrenzine with the story Roadkill Roulette : The Life And Times Of Sammy Davis Jr. And Natty Winston's Last Game by Russell Day.
Now in the run up to the publication of the anniversary edition we've persuaded Russ to come out of writing retirement and serve us up another helping.
Issue 3 of this run of Fahrenzine is Point Fucking No One by Russell Day - and my it's something a bit special.
As many of you will know, Russ is an absolute master of the short-story.
A few years ago we put together a short story anthology - a set of 6 judges read and ranked hundreds of short stories. All the stories were completely anonymised so nobody had any idea who had written what. When the scores were collated and the writer's identities unveiled it was revealed that the two top ranked stories from all the judges had been written by the same person.
That person was Russell Day and off the back of those 2 stories we went on to publish 3 books written by him before he decided to take a step back from writing for a bit during the pandemic to concentrate on his job working on the front line of the NHS.
We weren't the only ones to spot Russell's writing chops as in 2018 The Crime Writer's Association (CWA) awarded him The Margery Allingham Prize (its annual award for the best short story of the year).
So yeah, in short you'd be nuts to miss out on this one - we're not going to even give you a hint what it's about but trust us - this one is gonna disappear off the shelves faster than any issue we've ever published.
Remember as with all the Fahrenzines, only the 100 people who buy this will ever get to read this story - we anticipate people will be fighting to get their hands on this one so don't hang about.
You can also find out more about the Anniversary Edition of King Of The Crows - it’ll be published next week in eBook, Paperback & Hardback editions.
And finally, as it’s Easter and the sun is shining we’re in a good mood so we’ve decided to give you all a lovely 10% DISCOUNT off all books & merch this weekend - just enter promo-code EASTER10 at the checkout. Remember every time you buy a paperback or a hardback from our store we give you the eBook download for FREE so you could be reading one of these beauties in minutes - go on fill your boots….
In boozy news - a bunch of Fahrenheit authors got together with Fahrenheit 13 supremo Chris Black this week - frankly I thought their group photograph looked like a movie waiting to happen - turns out those naughty Fahrenheit design elves thought so too….
Okay that’s all from us this week, we’re off out into the sunshine to enjoy the weekend.
Be safe, look after each other and above all else try to be kind - we’re all a bit on edge at the moment and a smile from a stranger could make all the difference.
We kiss you
xx
P.S. - this new Fahrenzine really will fly off the shelves so if you haven’t already got a Fahrenzine subscription you’re gonna have to move quickly to secure one of the remaining copies.
